July 10 is National Pina Colada Day — a holiday invented, as far as anyone can tell, purely so we'd have an excuse to put pineapple and coconut in a blender on a hot afternoon. We're in. Ours just skips the rum and builds the buzz on a Floral THC cocktail instead, so you get the whole creamy, tropical, umbrella-optional experience without the hangover sneaking in behind it.
Why a Rum-Free Pina Colada Actually Works
Here's the thing the classic recipe doesn't want you to know: rum was never the point of a pina colada. The magic is the texture — that thick, frozen, milkshake-meets-fruit-smoothie body — and the pineapple-coconut combination that tastes like a vacation. The rum mostly just adds alcohol and a faint vanilla-oak note that a splash of vanilla extract handles just as well.
Take the rum out and you lose nothing you'll miss. Build the drink on a Floral THC cocktail and you trade the alcohol for a defined, low-and-slow buzz that you can actually control — instead of the open-ended pour of a rum bottle. It's the same swap people are making all summer: keep the ritual, keep the flavor, drop the part that wrecks tomorrow.
The THC Pina Colada Recipe
This makes two generous glasses from one blender batch. The dose math matters here, so read the serving note right after the steps.
You'll need (makes 2 glasses)
- 1½ cups frozen pineapple chunks
- ½ cup cream of coconut (the sweetened kind, like Coco Lopez) — or full-fat coconut milk plus 1 tbsp agave
- 1 Floral THC cocktail, 10mg Delta-9 — a tropical or citrus flavor works best
- ½ cup pineapple juice
- ¼ tsp vanilla extract (optional, for that "rum-ish" warmth)
- 1 cup ice
- Pineapple wedge, cherry, and a paper umbrella to garnish — non-negotiable on July 10
- Load the blender. Add frozen pineapple, cream of coconut, pineapple juice, vanilla, and ice. Hold the THC cocktail back for now — you'll add it last so the carbonation and dose stay intact.
- Blend to a thick swirl. Run it until completely smooth and pourable-but-thick — think soft-serve, not soup. If it's too stiff, add a splash more pineapple juice; too thin, add a few more frozen pineapple chunks.
- Add the THC cocktail and pulse. Pour in the 10mg cocktail and pulse just two or three times — enough to fold it through, not enough to flatten it. This is how the full dose stays in the drink instead of foaming off the top.
- Pour into two glasses. Split the batch evenly between two chilled hurricane or pint glasses. Even pours matter — see the dose note below.
- Garnish like it's a holiday. Pineapple wedge on the rim, a cherry, the umbrella. Wide straw. Find shade. Sip slowly.
Dose It Right (This One Is Stronger)
Pay attention to this part, because the pina colada is built on a 10mg cocktail — our strongest single can, and four times the dose of a 2.5mg seltzer. That's plenty for a relaxed afternoon, and it is emphatically not a "drink the whole blender yourself" situation.
One 10mg cocktail blends into two glasses, which means each glass holds about 5mg of Delta-9 THC. Split the batch evenly and that's a comfortable, sociable dose per person. If you're making it just for yourself, pour one glass now and save the second in the freezer for later — don't double up on a 10mg base in one sitting unless you genuinely know your tolerance.
And as always: a frozen drink that tastes this much like dessert is easy to drink fast and easy to underestimate. Give it 45 minutes to an hour before deciding you want more. If you're newer to higher doses, start with one of our 2.5mg or 5mg cocktails in the recipe instead — the flavor's the same, the landing is softer. Our THC cocktail recipes guide breaks down which strength fits which occasion.
Tropical Variations
The pineapple-coconut base is endlessly forgiving. A few easy directions once you've got the original down:
Painkiller-style
Add a splash of orange juice and a grate of fresh nutmeg over the top for the classic tiki-bar variation.
Strawberry colada
Swap half the pineapple for frozen strawberries and layer a strawberry purée up the side of the glass for a two-tone look.
Lighter & lower-sugar
Use full-fat coconut milk instead of cream of coconut, skip the agave, and lean on the frozen fruit for body. Build it on a 5mg cocktail for a gentler glass.
For a whole afternoon of frozen, blender-based drinks in this spirit, the summer THC drink recipes collection is the natural next stop — and if you'd rather a no-blend, tall-and-fizzy option, our 2.5mg seltzers are the easy default.
Happy National Pina Colada Day
You don't need a special occasion to put pineapple and coconut in a blender — but you've got one on July 10, so use it. Rum-free, dosed for the glass, frozen to a swirl, umbrella firmly in place. That's how you do the holiday without it doing you.
