National Tequila Day lands on July 24, and it puts a familiar fork in the road: you love a frozen margarita, but you don't always love what tequila does to the rest of your day. Good news — the margarita was never really about the tequila. It's about the cold, the tart, the salt, and the slow blender hum on a hot afternoon. Here's how to build all of that into a frozen THC margarita, no tequila required.
Why a Margarita Works Without the Tequila
Think about what you actually taste in a great frozen margarita. The lime is loud. The salt rim does most of the heavy lifting on flavor. The blended ice makes it cold and a little creamy. The sweetness rounds the edges. Tequila is in there, sure — but it's a background note, and on a 95-degree day it's also the part that dehydrates you and writes a check your morning has to cash.
Swap the tequila for a low-dose THC drink and you keep everything that made the margarita worth ordering: the pucker, the salt, the frozen slush, the ritual of a properly rimmed glass. What changes is the engine. Instead of an alcohol buzz and the afternoon slump that trails it, you get a light, even lift from 2.5 to 10mg of hemp-derived Delta-9 — your call on strength — and a clear head for whatever comes after. It's the same logic behind a good paloma alternative: lead with the citrus, build the THC in, and nobody misses the liquor.
The Frozen THC Margarita — Single Serving
This is the everyday version: one glass, one blender, about three minutes. We build it on a Floral Key Lime seltzer for the citrus backbone, then layer in fresh lime so it tastes like a real margarita and not a lime soda.
You'll need
- 1 can Floral Key Lime seltzer (2.5mg Delta-9), well chilled
- 1.5 to 2 cups ice
- Juice of 1 fresh lime (plus a wedge for garnish)
- 1 to 2 tsp agave or simple syrup, to taste
- Flaky or kosher salt for the rim
- Optional: a splash of orange juice for that "triple sec" roundness
- Rim the glass first. Run a lime wedge around the rim, then press it into a small plate of salt. Pop the glass in the freezer while you blend — a frosted glass keeps the slush frozen longer.
- Build the blend. Add the ice, fresh lime juice, agave, and the optional splash of OJ to the blender. Hold the seltzer back for now.
- Blend to slush. Pulse until it's smooth and frozen, with no big ice shards. Add a little more ice if it's loose, a splash of water if it's too thick to move.
- Fold in the seltzer last. Pour the Key Lime seltzer in and pulse just once or twice — barely enough to combine. Blending it hard kills the carbonation and the gentle fold keeps the texture light and the dose intact.
- Pour, garnish, sip slowly. Into the salted, frosted glass. Lime wedge on the rim. Then actually slow down — see the dosing note below before you reach for a second.
Want it stronger? Build it on a Floral cocktail instead of a seltzer. Our cane-sugar and zero-sugar cocktails come in 2.5mg, 5mg, and 10mg, so you can dial the margarita to the lift you actually want — a 5mg makes a sturdier "happy hour" version, while 10mg is a full-strength nightcap that still tastes like a treat.
The Pitcher Version for a Tequila Day Crowd
Hosting? Scale it up, but mind the math — this is where THC drinks differ from alcohol, and it matters. Each can carries a fixed dose, so a pitcher's total THC is simply the number of cans you put in. Don't free-pour and hope.
- Use one can per serving. Four guests, four cans, blended in two batches. That keeps each glass at roughly the dose of a single can, so nobody gets surprised.
- Scale the lime and ice with it. Juice of 4 limes, agave to taste, and enough ice to keep it a true slush rather than a soup.
- Tell people the strength. "Each glass is about one 2.5mg can" is a sentence that prevents the whole problem. Treat it like serving alcohol — your guests should know what they're drinking.
- Keep plain seltzers on ice too. Some folks will want a second round without a second dose. A non-infused sparkling water on the side handles that gracefully.

Three Twists Once You've Got the Base Down
Strawberry Frozen Margarita
Build it on Strawberry Mango seltzer and toss a handful of frozen strawberries into the blend. Tart, fruity, and a little pink.
Spicy Mango Margarita
A few slices of jalapeño in the blender and a Tajín rim instead of plain salt. Heat and citrus is a classic for a reason.
Tropical Coconut Margarita
Tropical seltzer plus a spoonful of coconut cream blends into something halfway between a margarita and a colada. Dangerously smooth.
The Dosing Part — Read Before the Second Round
A frozen drink hides its dose well, and that's the one trap worth naming. The slush is cold and tart and goes down like dessert, which makes it easy to forget there's THC in there at all. So treat the margarita like what it is: a 2.5mg (or 5, or 10) serving, not a bottomless pitcher.
THC beverages also come on at their own pace — generally faster than a gummy, but still not instant. Have one, give it 45 minutes to an hour, and then decide whether you want another. Start with a single-can build if it's your first frozen THC drink, and don't stack a second one just because the first hasn't fully arrived yet. That patience is the whole difference between a great Tequila Day and an awkward one.
